We have been producing new work here in New York City for 10 years this Summer. (Over 1000 full length plays and close to 800 short plays.) Putting up a successful play production in NYC is quite a challenge and there are a myriad of factors that either make or break a production.

Our new Premiere Play Development Program is an attempt streamline the process of play production and solve some of the most challenging problems of producing a play in NYC.

There are so many festivals now in town where plays are slapped into theaters with very limited tech, dress and rehearsal time. Often it is twice the play length, or a daytime Tech/Dress for 4 or 5 hours tops where you are stressed out of your mind attempting to perfect your play before you open that night in this strange theatre.

This is the first challenge that our Premiere Play Development Program solves. We offer 3 hours of TECH, and then, on another day, 3 hours of Dress rehearsal time, and before that we offer an additional 8 hours of straight rehearsal in the theatre you will be performing in for a total of 14 hours of theatre time. (And we offer additional rental time in the theatre at a price below most studio space.) More time in the theatre means you won’t be rushed. Your actors will feel at home and comfortable, and you will be able to develop and present your play in a civilized professional manner without having a heart attack from the crazy stress of the “Theatre Festival.” And your play will rock!

The second challenge we help solve is we give you real support. Our Premiere Play Development program is open to only 12 plays to be produced between October 1 and December 18, 2015. If there are 35 or 100 plays in a 4 week festival how much can you truly be supported? We will be available to help with anything you may need from casting, to hiring a team, to script work, to creative play solutions. This is not a crazy festival. Your play will be part of our Fall season and we will be there to help you along the way with any problems or challenges you may encounter.

Our Premiere Play Development Program is about the work, not about how many plays can be stuffed into a theatre at any given time. It is about making it easy for you to develop your play in the heart of the theatrical world, Times Square, with hours and hours of theatre time, and REAL creative and administrative support to create a great production!

What this all means:

Our Premiere Play Development Program includes:

2 performances at Manhattan Rep this Fall  (more if you play is selling well.)

Over 14 hours of rehearsal time on the Manhattan Rep stage

3 hours tech, 3 hours Dress rehearsal, and 8 hours of straight rehearsal time in the theatre

Weekly development discussions if you wish with Artistic Director Ken Wolf, with help with casting, direction, the best way to set up a production from the start, how to make important cuts to your play, how to better structure your play, team building and more.

If you have written a play and you feel you want some support developing it and bringing it to production, as opposed to being flung onto the stage like at so many NYC festivals, our Premiere Play Development program is for you!
